From a users perspective, the internet is a search bar that produces a collection of links. You might find what you are looking for, or maybe you scroll for a while, and then the internet ends for you there.
Given that the internet starts and ends with your search criteria or some idle scrolling, how do you find new content before you know it exists?
The solution, most of the time, is an algorithm. You can find new stuff that way, but it’s always whatever is most profitable for the company often leaving out some true gems. The best of the internet I’ve discovered is from word of mouth, or links from other creators. So sit tight, make some tea, and read this map to some of the greatest treasures of the world wide web.
- Webcomics
- Questionable Content
A slice-of-life sitcom about friendship, romance, and community during the AI revolution. It’s fun, lighthearted, and you can see the artists style visibly evolve over time. - Kill 6 Billion Demons
A fantasy adventure with absolutely beautiful artwork, where the protagonist is swept into a strange world full of prophecy, gods, and of course demons. The author also crafted religious poetry for the setting which he dropped in the comments that creates really in-depth world building. - Existential Comics
Weekly doses of philosophy, jokes, and jokes about philosophy.

- Career and Financial advice
- 80 000h
A career is roughly 80 000h long. This site does research and provides advice to help you get the most out of a career, both for earnings and for the world. - Mr. Money Mustache
A financial blog with an entertainingly abrasive sense of humour. Mr. Money Mustache includes excellent advice on how to be efficient with money, investment guides, and an explanation of the Financial Independence movement. I’d recommend it to anyone, especially those who want their careers to be less than 80 000h

- Economics, Regional Development, and Urban Planning
- Speaking Municipally
The best source I’ve found for Edmonton municipal policy, relevant news, and staying up to date with City Council. In podcast format. - ATB’s The Quarterly, The Seven, and The Twenty-Four Seven
Economic analysis, facts, and figures relevant to Alberta, at any desired frequency. ATB provides some of the main independent economic reports for my home province. As a bonus, one of my friends is on the writing team for these articles. - Noahpinion
An economics and politics blog, with a dash of techno-optimism. It’s written from an American perspective and primarily features the U.S., with a substantial dash of Japan and occasional coverage elsewhere. It’s got high quality analysis, but unfortunately some of it is paywalled.
